Letter* | On January 19th, 1885, Virginia Antoinette Ervin wrote the following letter to her Aunt Sallie (Sarah Ann Ervin 1828-1899) : "Dearest Aunt Sallie: - Will it surprise you to hear, I'm getting married on Thursday evening? Well 'tis so, on that evening, if nothing happens to prevent, I'll chage my name from Ervin to Hairston. I would be so glad to have you come up from then can't you? It is to be a very quiet affair, only near relatives expected. You are the only one of my aunts invited & have wanted. To let you know before, but we were not fully decided when it would come off, until lately. We will be married at 3 o'clock, and leave immediately after the ceremony for N. O.. Sister and Sister Hallie send love, take a large bundle of it. From your devoted niece, Nettie Ervin".  |
