| Obituary* | Death of Mrs. Patty - Macon loses one of her best women in the death of Mrs. Mollie Foote Patty, who passed away at her home Wednesday. On last Sunday, while at church, she was stricken with paralysis, and though she was able to leave the building without anyone suspecting the seriousness of the attack, she collapsed soon after reaching home, and never fully regained consciousness. Mrs. Patty was born in Macon in 1859, the daughter of Judge and Mrs. H. W. Foote. In 1879 she was married to Mr. T. T. Patty, who left her a widow six years ago. She is survived by six children -- Thomas T., R. C., William, Kate, Henry and Mary. Mrs. Patty was a woman of rare strength of character, and of a most loveable disposition. Her life was beautiful, and exemplary of all the Christian values. Her remains were interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery on Thursday, a large number of friends being present at the Methodist church where services were held, and accompanying the corciege to the cemetery. Many relatives from out of town were present. - Newspaper clipping from the family Bible. |
| Obituary | A Memorian - To Mrs. Mollie Foote Patty, who departed this life August 19th, 1908. "There is no death, the stars go down To rise upon a brighter star" It is indeed, sad to think that she has left us, never more to return. Life does not seem so bright and happy as when she was here. But God called her, and she peacefully passed out into the mystic realms of eternity to a Christian's reward. She was of a modest, refined and retiring nature, like unto the lovely violet that blooms and wastes its sweetness. A surer test of character is found when we sojourn together. She was a true and sincere friend, wholly unselfish, ever ready to forgive, and to dispense charity. "My days would not have been best, Should I forget." Reared from early childhood under a pious influence, naturally a religious atmosphere pervaded her home life. Her example betokens the best that was within her. She loved her church and God's people. I have never known a more devoted and self-sacrificing mother. There was an unusual demonstration of devoted love and affection on the part of her children -- all paying homage and deference to little mother. It was a sweet and happy home. "Lead kindly light amid the encircling gloom, Lead thou me on; The day is dark, and I am far from home, Lead thou me on:" M.T.M. Macon Beacon, Macon, Mississippi: Saturday August 29, 1908. |
