Obituary* | Western Sentinel - MRS. C. F. HAIRSTON DEAD Aged Lady Passes Away at Her Home in Davie County - Burial in Virginia. Mrs. Fannie Caldwell Hairston, the widow of the late Peter W. Hairston and the daughter of the late Judge David F. Caldwell, died Monday morning at an early hour at her Cooleemee plantation in Davie County. Mrs. Hairston was 73 years of age. She had been in feeble health for the pat few months, but her condition had not been regarded as serious. To her friends and relatives the news of her death will come as a shock. Mrs. Hairston was a woman of strong mind and intellect. She was a Southern woman of the old regime and had retained her large plantations and many of her servants which she owned before the war. The place was run in the same elegant style that Southern homes were kept as before the war and the place was famed for the hospitality of its mistress and her children. She is survived by two daughters, Misses Agnes and Ruth Hairston, and one son, Mr. Peter W. Hairston. The remains were taken to Berryhill, Va., where they were placed by the side of her husband. The funeral services will be held this afternoon. - The Western Sentinel, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, June 27, 1907. |
