Death*He died on 23 May 1916 at age 39. MR. WATT HARDEN HAIRSTON -- Well Known and Popular Citizen of Henry Co., Dies in Baltimore. - A telegram received yesterday announced the death of Mr. Watt Harden Hairston in Baltimore at 2 o'clock Tuesday morning where he had recently gone for treatment. Deceased was 38 years of age and was born at Beaver Creek, Henry county where he spent his life. He was the son of the late Major J. T. W. Hairston, of Mississippi and Virginia and Mrs. Elizabeth P. Hairston, of Beaver Creek, and a cousin of Mrs. Rorer A. James of this city. He was thoroughly democratic in manners and taste and popular with every class and enjoyed at all times a large circle of admiring personal frioends. He was educated by private tutors and at the Episcopal High School and the University of Virginia. He was a thorough gentleman with the highest sence of honor; a genial and accomplished host, it was in his home that his pleasing personality was shown at its best. He is survived by his mother with whom he resided. The remains accompanied by his mother, Col. Harden Hairston and Mr. B. H. Townes will arrive in the city early this morning and be placed aboard the 6:30 a. m., Danville and Western train for Martinsville. The funeral and burial will be at his late home, Beaver Creek, but the time has not been announced. Deceased was a prominent and popular member of Danville Lodge of Elks which order will send an appropriate floral design and be represented at the burial by a committe of its members. - Danville Register and Bee, Danville, Virginia, Wednesday, May 24, 1916, page 1.3 
Burial*BURIAL OF MR. HAIRSTON - (Special to The Register) - Martinsville, Va., May 25 - The burial of Mr. Watt Harden Hairston took place this morning at 10 o'clock in the family burying groun at his late home, Beaver Creek, where his ancestors for more than a hundred years have been laid to rest. There was a very large gathering of sorrowing friends and relatives present to pay this last tribute. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Cleveland Hall, rector of the Church of the Epiphany, Danville, supplemented by the beautiful and impressive ceremony of the Knights of Pythias, by Sir Knights of the Martinsville Lodge. The floral offerings were unusually beautiful and numerous, many of them coming from distance, testifying to the wide and general popularity of the deceased. A very handsome design bore the card of the Danville Lodge of Elks, which was also represented by a committee which arrived in several automobiles a short while before the service begun. The pall-bearers were: John W. Carter, John Andrew Brown, B. H. Townes, Stafford G. Whittle, Jr., of Martinsville; W. R. Wadsworth, Spencer; Dr. A. C. Lancaster, Farydale; S. S. Brooke, Roanoke; Robert Hairston, Reidsville; Peter Hairston, Cooleemee, N. C; R. A. James, Danville. - Danville Register and Bee, Danville, Virginia, Friday, May 26, 1916.
