Military*On 25 April 1918, Lt. Benjamin H. Bachus, with the 320th Machine Gun Battalion, traveled to France aboard the RMS Caronia after leaving New York, NY.
World War I ended on 11 November 1918.
On 19 June 1919, Capt. Benjamin Harold Bachus, returned to Noboken, NJ after a 10 day voyage from St. Nazaire, France on the ship U.S.S. Rijndam, a troopship during WWI. 
Marriage*He married Wortley Moseley HAIRSTON, daughter of George William HAIRSTON and Ela May Ledbetter THARP, on 15 December 1925 in George W. Hairston home, Crawford, Lowndes, Mississippi; Bachus-Hairston Wedding is Quietly Solemnized -- The Marriage of Miss Wortley Hairston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hairston, to Benjamin Harold Bachus, of New Orleans, La., was solemnized at high noon on December 19, at the home of the bride, only relatives being present. The decorations were ferns and floor baskets of Yellow chrysanthemums. Preceding the ceremony, which was said by the Reverend George H. Boyles, pastor of the Methodist church, of Crawford, Mrs. George H. Boyles sang "At Dawning", accompanied by Mrs. Edwin Ervin. Mrs. Ervin played a piano solo "To a Wild Rose", and "Call Me Thine Own", during the ceremony. Mendelssohn's wedding march signaled the coming of the bride, who entered upon the arm of her father. She wore a going away costume of tan and brown flay crepe and corsage of pink Columbia roses. Preceding the bride, came the maid of honor, Mrs. Laura May Blair, sister of the bride, wearing rosewood georgette and carrying white chrysanthemums, followed by the ring bearer, Robert Hairston, nephew of the bride, wearing white broadcloth and carrying the the ring in the heart of a callalily. The flower girl, Miss Carolyn Blair, niece of the bride, wore a frock of turquoise blue georgette and scattered rose petals. Immediatley after the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Bacchus left for a bridal trip to Florida.
