Court RecordOn 24 February 1780, George Hairstone, Archelaus Hughes, William Tunstall, Abraham Penn and Modecai Hord are held firmly bound unto Thomas Jefferson Governor or Chief Magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia for 40,000 pounds current money. They are to collect a tax of 3 pounds for every taxable person and 4 pounds for every slave in Henry County. - Henry Deed Book 2, page 7. FSL #7846266, image 12. 
Death*Col. Archelaus HUGHES died on 25 December 1796.1 
Burial*He was buried in Hughesville Cemetery, Patrick, Virginia.1
