Obituary*"HAIRSTON, EVELYN P. --- BASSETT -- Evelyn Prillaman Hairston, age 73, of Bassett, died Wednesday in a Roanoke Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was born February 11, 1908 in Franklin County to the late John Tyler and Onie Burnett Prillaman. She is survived by her husband, Nick H. Hairston; one brother, H. Glen Prillaman, Rocky Mount; one niece and one nephew. Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Howard C. Smith and Elder Cecil Turner will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville. The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home Chapel in Bassett, Thursday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Caccer Society." -- The Roanoke Times, Friday, March 27, 1981, page 12.
