Birth*Pvt. George W. HAIRSTON was born on 8 August 1891 in South Carolina.1,2 
He was the son of William Hutchinson HAIRSTON and Dora Mary MASON. 
Military*On 30 August 1918, Pvt. George W. Hairston, of the Bakery Company No. 310, 87th Division, U.S. Army, departed New York, NY on the ship Harrisburg to Europe. 
Death*Pvt. George W. HAIRSTON died on 18 February 1919 at age 27.2 
Burial*He was buried in Shady Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Laurens, South Carolina. "Body to Arrive This Week. - Mr. George W. Eddy received a wire via Washington, September 7, informing him that the body of the late Private George W. Hairston would arrive in the United States on or about 15th instant. Mr. Eddy wired instructions to ship the body to Newberry. It is expected here Friday or Saturday, unless delayed en route. The interment will be in the churchyard at Shady Grove. Private Hairston died of pneumonia while in service overseas in February, 1919." - The Newberry Weekly Herald, Newberry, South Carolina, Tuesday, September 14, 1920, page 5. (Note: Private Hairston was the stepson of George W. Eddy. Private Hairston was first buried in the City Cemetery, Bad Neuenahr, Germany on 19 February 1919 and then disinterred on 31 July 1920 and returned to the South Carolina.)2
